Project Manager - Public Involvement/Collaborative Planning

Description

The Project Manager will be part of the 10-person MIG Management and Policy Planning Services (MAPS) team. The MAPS Team provides strategic planning, organizational development and training, agency policy planning and implementation, community planning and implementation, and community outreach services in the following areas: land use, transportation, environmental resources, parks and recreation, growth management, education, and social welfare. The Public Involvement Project Manager will be the team member responsible for managing a range of public involvement/community engagement programs to support planning and design projects addressing land use, transportation, park and recreation, natural resources, social welfare, education, growth management and other quality of life issues.

The project manager will provide professional consulting services in the form of process design, community outreach and education strategies and products, meeting management and facilitation, results analysis and decision support to our federal, state, regional and local, primarily public sector clients. The Project Manager will be responsible for managing comprehensive and strategic planning projects for agencies of all sizes.

Candidates for this senior position must demonstrate independent judgment, personal organization, the ability to make decisions and manage multiple priorities, and excellent communication skills as well as expertise in process facilitation, oral presentation, research, writing, supervision, managment, and marketing.

 

 
Duties
  • Designing, conducting and managing community/stakeholder participation and collaborative planning projects.
  • Designing and implementing public involvement and outreach strategies consistent with the MIG approach.
  • Participating in marketing and business development efforts, including developing scopes of work and cost estimates, and attending/presenting at professional conferences.
  • Coordinating and managing project teams, including mentoring of associate staff.
  • Managing and coordinating sub-consultant services and contracts.
  • Negotiating and managing contracts and budgets.
  • Conducting planning research and preparing analyses to assist with policy and decision-making.
  • Developing and conducting presentations for public groups, agencies and political leaders.
  • Facilitating public, stakeholder, departmental and inter-agency meetings.
 
Qualifications
  • Masters’ degree in public policy, planning, urban studies, environmental studies, public administration, environmental psychology, sociology, or closely related field (highly desirable).
  • Five to ten years senior level experience in community planning and related decision support.
  • Understanding of planning issues, and knowledge of emerging trends and innovations in civic engagement, community-based planning, environmental justice, communications and performance measurement.
  • Excellent facilitation and writing skills.
  • Direct experience with public sector organizations. Prior consulting experience is a plus.
  • Skilled in marketing and business development, with demonstrated ability to bring in projects, funding, or grants.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to think critically, communicate effectively, produce high quality work, facilitate solutions, use work as a catalyst for innovation and positive change, and have passion and humor.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, willingness to mentor junior staff.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish speaker) a plus.
