MIG is working with the public and private sectors to ensure that Downtown Calgary is a place where people want to live, shop, visit, dine and recreate, and that the image and identity of the Downtown creates a vital urban place that is distinct from surrounding neighborhoods. Streetscape design, park and plaza character and open space connections create a vibrant and highly functional pedestrian environment. Building better connections from adjacent neighborhoods strengthens the Downtown core, while improvements to building edge conditions and the incorporation of a wide range of land uses supports the Downtown as a unique destination. The urban design strategy will dovetail with the retail and branding strategies to create a distinct retail, physical and cultural identity for Downtown Calgary.
