San Jose Children's Discovery Museum "Way Back" Lot
San Jose Children's Discovery Museum, San Jose, California
The Way Back Lot is the 57,000 square-foot outdoor setting at the Children’s Museum of San Jose. Its purpose is to provide opportunities for children ages 8 months to 10 years and their caregivers to learn about and connect with the natural world experientially, historically and culturally. Working with museum staff, the San Jose Redevelopment Agency and LMS Architects, MIG developed the design program and master plan. The outdoor setting is a multi-sensory experience—a place where it is okay to get dirty. The individual settings are organized so children naturally assume a role that encourages them to care for, study, create or protect the environment.
