Sacramento Project of the Year 2009 - Dixieanne Avenue Green Street

Sacramento Redevelopment Agency, California

Dixieanne Avenue Green Street Plan is located along five blocks of Dixieanne Avenue and is the first of its kind in Sacramento. A key element of the design is a new storm drainage system beneath a strip of trees, shrubs and grass, allowing for most stormwater to be captured, reducing peak flows and cleansing runoff. The innovative urban design process for Dixieanne Street resulted in a Universal Design approach that increases accessibility, enhances road safety, improves water quality, and creates an inviting pedestrian friendly environment with low maintenance plantings.
