Ankeny/Burnside Development Framework
City of Portland, Portland, Oregon
MIG led the creation of a development concept and urban design plan for the Ankeny/Burnside Historic District in downtown Portland, Oregon. The final Development Framework includes a detailed vision concept for the district, streetscape improvements for First Street and Ankeny, and guidelines for the built form, circulation and parking. The plan provides a blueprint to achieve the community’s vision and includes key catalytic projects for buildings and open spaces, recommended changes to regulations and guidelines, and critical funding strategies. Focused on near-term implementation, the planning and design process resulted in new investment by the University of Oregon and Mercy Corps, improvements to Waterfront Park and Ankeny Plaza, and the redesign of the Saturday Market’s permanent home on the waterfront. MIG’s unique combination of urban design, planning and community engagement contributed to a new beginning for this portion of Downtown Portland.
