Fort Yamhill State Heritage Area Schematic Design
Oregon Parks & Recreation Department, Polk County, Oregon
MIG developed ways to illuminate the Fort's history and teach how archaeology continues to serve an educational role on site. Using a combination of techniques employed at archaeological parks around the world MIG developed a design which reveals what archaeologists have uncovered and will serve as a learning landscape for generations to come. The design will restore the lone remaining officer’s quarters and feature ghost structures to volumize missing buildings. Where intact archaeological features remain, the ground plane will be protected and revealed to reveal foundations of enlisted men’s living quarters. The entire site will be linked by a path system that mimics the historic circulation.
