Comer Children’s Hospital Garden
The University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois
MIG designed the fourth floor healing "green" garden on the roof outside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) floor of the Comer's Children's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. This 5,000 square-foot roof garden is designed to relieve stress and provide respite in all seasons for children in the hospital. The garden is partially enclosed by a modern greenhouse structure and contains an undulating path that moves through various gardens of different sizes and character to accommodate individuals or small groups. Visitors to the garden enter through the ICU into a small green area with a waterfall. At this point the visitor can choose to go into small quiet “rooms” with views to the city or stroll from the path to a stone message wall or walk along the stream to a fountain where they can place wishing rocks.
