Accessibility Technical Specialist, Project Associate

The Accessibility Technical Specialist, Project Associate, will work in our Community Accessible Design and Planning Services group on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plans, ADA implementation planning, facility evaluations and reports, and training for agency staff. This is a full-time hourly position. Some travel, evening, and weekend work will be required for community engagement efforts, site evaluations, and deadline-driven work. MIG encourages a work-life balance, and these excess hours can be offset during the week when possible.


  • Helping manage project data and workflows that support project teams, assisting with plan checking and reports, report development, meetings with clients and the public, and conducting a variety of technical analyses. 
  • Supporting database maintenance and work products
  • Supporting web accessibility and digital product development
  • Conducting site evaluations of buildings, parks, and the public right-of-way for adherence to ADA title II Standards and other relevant accessibility regulations and guidelines
  • Working with the team to develop ADA title II Self-Evaluation and Transition Plans

GIS Support

  • Support the maintenance of data collection methodologies and procedures
  • Provide the integration of database with existing GIS tools
  • Provide QA/QC of GIS end work products and data documentation
  • Produce geodatabase deliverables for clients
  • Provide the on-going mapping and analysis procedures for implementation tool development
  • Provide GIS analysis and mapping for report development

Data Management / Maintenance / Development

  • Maintain database tools used to track and report assessments
  • Modify existing data collection tools to provide outputs/products to meet client needs
  • Modify and maintain reporting features
  • Make recommendations to optimize the design of workflows to stay current with technology changes

Accessible Digital Communications

  • Support team with meeting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines across work products
  • Inform the methodology self-evaluation and review of online media
  • Support the development of accessible document templates
  • Support the development of training materials for clients and MIG staff

Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated professional background focused on ADA title II self-evaluation and transition plans, and a passion to work with a creative and driven team dedicated to creating accessible and inclusive communities. In addition, you must have some combination of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • 5+ years of experience with ADA design standards
  • 3+ years of experience with digital accessibility technology
  • Required software skills: GIS, Adobe Acrobat DC, familiarity with database applications and asset management tools
  • Proficiency with SQL, Javascript, and Python
  • Desired software skills: PAC3 and CommonLook
  • Web development experience
  • Experience in the fields of architecture, planning, engineering, or landscape architecture is a plus
  • Experience with public agencies, design skills, and/or bilingual capabilities is a plus
  • CPACC certification is a plus
  • ICC Accessibility Inspector / Plans Examiner is a plus 
  • CASp certification is a plus
  • ADAC certification is a plus
