A regional and national leader in the field, Lauren Schmitt (PLA, ASLA, AICP) has been transforming park and recreation facilities and systems for over 20 years. She has always applied a “hands-on approach”—from laying bluestone as a highschooler working for a design-build contractor to leading the development of major metropolitan park master plans throughout the U.S. Her curiosity and knack for problem-solving lend themselves naturally to the analysis and assessment of projects, enabling her to ask the right questions from the outset and put projects on a path to positive outcomes. As an urban planner and landscape architect, Lauren has been involved in both policy planning and placemaking for clients nationwide on projects addressing neighborhood and downtown planning, park and recreation services and facilities, natural and cultural resources, trails and open space, and programming. She has used her expertise and experience to help clients navigate unexpected circumstances and reap the benefits of unforeseen opportunities. Specifically, Lauren brings a broad range of community outreach, facilitation, project management, public speaking, and team leadership skills to every project. Whether it’s a park system with 3,390 acres in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania or a 10-acre site in Gresham, Oregon, Lauren’s practicality and resourcefulness enables her to leverage resources without being constrained by them to create places and policies that reflect the best a community has to offer.
Lauren is Director of Pacific Northwest operations.
