Southeast Mobility Hubs Plan
More than just a transit stop, mobility hubs are community focal points that integrate various transportation modes—buses, rail, cars, bicycles, shared cars/scooters/bicycles—and amenities in a cohesive and welcoming space.
Denver wanted to create mobility hubs at three RTD light rail stations and their surrounding communities: Yale, Southmoor and Belleview. This effort included an in-depth evaluation of the existing transportation infrastructure, station area communities, land use and barriers that might make walking or biking to stations uncomfortable.
Along with community stakeholder working groups for each of the stations, outreach included online community meetings, an online survey, an interactive map and an in-person Town Hall (due to the COVID-19 pandemic, almost all community participation occurred in a virtual setting). Visualizations helped the City and community envision what the area could look like.
The strategic action plan includes recommendations for station programming, amenities, land use changes, network connectivity and safety enhancements—and will energize the three stations and 1-mile areas around them, enhancing those first and last miles between home and transit.
