Lawrence-Mitty Park and Trail Project
The woodsy fenced-off area marked with “No Trespassing” signs was devoid of people, but full of birds, turtles, bats and woodrats. It will soon be transformed into the Lawrence-Mitty Park and Trail, boosting equitable access to parks and trails in Cupertino. The 7.8-acre site, adjacent to Saratoga Creek, will offer the community open space, enhanced riparian and upland plantings, and extended bike trail, soft surface trails, play opportunities, shade, seating, and a berm separating it from the adjacent expressway.
The Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) for the site included numerous biological resource mitigation measures such as preconstruction surveys for nesting birds, western pond turtles, roosting bats, and San Francisquito dusky-footed woodrats, as well as acoustic surveys, exclusionary fencing, worker awareness trainings, and construction monitoring.
