Cathy Garrett is an award-winning landscape architect with over 40 years of experience in design and management. Cathy works closely with MIG staff to promote new ideas, approaches, and design alternatives that provide clients with a deeper understanding and value of landscape design and its process. She fosters innovative design conversations on every project to bring out the best in staff and the places we work.

Her broad-based experience includes educational facilities, high-density housing, urban and civic spaces and historic preservation projects. Coming up in Australia’s second wave of landscape architects, Cathy was drawn to the field by the balance of art and science it requires. She co-led PGAdesign for 29 years, integrating sustainability practices into contemporary design as well as rehabilitation of historic properties.

Whether a project of historic significance, contemporary site design, or a combination of both, Cathy finds inspiration in developing innovative, environmentally responsible landscape design solutions. She brings the invaluable skill of maintaining a project’s original vision and integrity through evolving project constraints. That expertise often results in unexpected, unique, and rewarding options. Cathy and her project teams use this creative process to be stimulated by our work; she is exhilarated by seeing great concepts become excellent designs.

Cathy continues to lead the field, serving an appointment by the State Assembly to the California Historical State Capitol Commission, as president of the California Preservation Foundation, as a founder of the Northern California Historic American Landscape Survey Group and on the board of the National Association of Olmsted Parks.
