Seattle Bike Master Plan Implementation Support
While Seattle’s Bicycle Master Plans established a vision for a citywide network connecting neighborhoods and key destinations by bicycle, MIG helped turn this vision into real projects—with preliminary designs for more than 90 miles of improvements to support implementation of the 2007 and 2014 Seattle Bicycle Master Plans.
MIG developed design approaches for a wide range of on-street bicycle facilities, adapting the plans to the context and constraints of individual corridors. Projects included neighborhood greenways, buffered and protected bike lanes, bike boxes, road diets, and crossing strategies for complex intersections and acute-angle rail crossings. Concept development and alternatives analysis helped evaluate how different approaches could best serve people biking and walking. MIG’s preliminary designs provided Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) with a clear foundation for final design and construction, with built projects closely reflecting the original concepts.
Together, these projects advanced a connected bicycle network linking community facilities and key destinations while giving SDOT a practical foundation for implementation.
