The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) announced the election of Cathy Garrett, ASLA, MIG | PGA, as one of 36 ASLA Fellows—among the highest honors the ASLA bestows on members for their exceptional contributions to the landscape architecture profession and society at large.
Through sustained service, education, and advocacy throughout her 40+ year career, Cathy Garrett has elevated cultural landscape preservation and inspired broader public appreciation for the places that define our shared heritage.
She co-founded the Northern California chapter of the Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS), helping to bring national visibility to the documentation and protection of significant cultural sites. Cathy’s leadership extends to the California Preservation Foundation and the Historic State Capitol Commission, where she championed policies that protect historic resources and landscapes. Through her many pro bono efforts advancing the standards of historic preservation, Cathy has a direct positive impact on individuals—colleagues, mentees, peers in the profession and allied professionals. By emphasizing “placekeeping”, her work ensures that meaningful places continue to serve and reflect their communities.
