Two of MIG’s groundbreaking playground projects, Yanaguana Garden Playground at Hemisfair in San Antonio, TX, and Koret Children’s Playground in San Francisco, CA, have been nominated for USA Today’s 10BEST list for best public playgrounds!
10BEST assembled an expert panel that compiled a list of 20 playgrounds from around the country with the most thoughtful designs, inclusive features, interactive playsets, and family-friendly amenities. The group selected these two innovative MIG projects as worthy of this high award:
Yanaguana Garden Playground at Hemisfair | San Antonio, Texas
Drawing from the Native tribal culture and origin stories of the area’s original inhabitants, Yanaguana Garden was designed as a place for everyone to play, using play to build community and as a catalyst for economic development in the surrounding area. Free play invites children to take (manageable) risks that build confidence—and encourages adults to get down and play too! The sprawling space features climbing sculptures, a sand play area, a splash pad for cooling off, swings, slides, and a climbing wall. Wide pathways welcome wheels of all kinds, while smart landscape design incorporates native plants and plenty of shaded rest areas.
Koret Children’s Playground in Golden Gate Park | San Francisco, California
The Koret Children’s Playground in San Francisco offers timeless adventure and discovery to children of all abilities. Believed to be the first public playground in America, the updated historic play environment harmoniously blends Victorian charm with modern amenities, including an original carousel, intricate rope climbing structure, climbing wall, swings, and a sand pit. Artfully designed play elements create a setting where children of all ages and abilities are encouraged to use their imaginations, gauge risk, find new challenges, and actively manipulate their environment to elevate their own play experience.
MIG was built on the idea of play. Since our start, we have created beautiful play spaces that support economic vibrancy, physical health, social and cultural connection, respite, and joy. We are honored to have two of our projects nominated for the 10BEST list.
