Preserving the Rustic Experience
Decades of use, harsh winter weather and inappropriate “fixes” had severely degraded the historic cabins in historic Half Dome Village (formerly called Curry Village). They were built in 1918, in the shadow of the spectacular and iconic Half Dome and needed rehabilitation. The cabins are sited to blend with the surrounding woodland landscape. We worked closely with architects and structural engineers to preserve this defining site characteristic so visitors can have an authentic and comfortable outdoor experience. We also designed an accessible path to a select number of bungalows and to Stoneman Cabin, one of Half Dome Village's most unique lodging experiences, which will expand its use to more people.
