Placemaking in Parks
How can you ensure that residents, businesses, developers, local schools and universities and visitors find the parks and recreation they’re looking for? With multiple outreach methods such as in-the-field intercept events, multiple advisory boards and committees, our interactive web-based and mobile-friendly mapping tool called Mapita, and GIS analysis that identified park renovation and enhancement opportunities. The community wanted more trails, better access to open space, a greater mix of developed and natural parks, and more variety of recreation opportunities than are usually found in developer-built parks.
The new Master Plan focuses on placemaking—creating parks with unique characteristics and opportunities—diversifying play opportunities, improving bike and pedestrian access, integrating nature experiences and increasing recreation options and the ecological sustainability of parks. The project also included an ADA Transition Plan for Playgrounds.
