John Stiff Memorial Park Redevelopment Conceptual Design

Analysis into Action

John Stiff Memorial Park draws thousands of visitors each year to enjoy diverse amenities like sports fields and courts, playgrounds, a skate park, dog park, fishing lake, and expansive green space for drone shows and 4th of July celebrations—it’s a major regional destination in Amarillo, anchoring recreation and supporting residential growth in the rapidly expanding southern part of the City. MIG developed an inspiring vision and redevelopment concept to take this beloved regional Park’s success one step further with a means to attract private investment, generate revenue for park operations, and add community-serving amenities that complement existing popular recreational uses.

MIG’s previous work on Amarillo’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan provided a strong jumping off point for assessing development feasibility and collaborating with City staff and stakeholders to identify desired uses. A highly graphic, user-friendly Vision Book and accompanying Development Strategy delineate a pathway to turn analysis into action. The structured project approach helped the City:

  • Define market potential—by comparing market indicators and identifying overall inventory;
  • Develop a community-driven spatial vision and renderings of the preferred concept to generate excitement from residents and the private development community; and
  • Implement a pathway to development with actionable selection criteria, approaches to programming, short- to long-term ownership, revenue sharing, and other financing tools and incentives.

The result is a practical, visually compelling roadmap that supports strategic partnerships, fosters high-quality growth, and advances the City’s long-term vision for a thriving and connected South Amarillo.
