Marblemount Ranger Station Historic District Cultural Landscape Report

Connecting Culture and Capacity in the North Cascades

Constructed in 1932 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, the Marblemount Ranger Station is a significant example of early 20th-century U.S. Forest Service architecture. The station has served continually as a base of operations for NPS staff at North Cascades National Park, and decades of use had taken their toll.

MIG developed a Cultural Landscape Report for the Marblemount Historic District to build a deeper understanding of its historic character and improve communication and collaboration between multiple NPS divisions utilizing the site. The report provided recommendations for addressing climate impacts such as wildfire, flooding, temperature increases, storms, and pests and diseases. It also offered advice on how to increase accessibility across the District’s offices and residences.

Using the Cultural Landscape Report as a foundational document, North Cascades National Park staff can plan and implement resilient strategies that balance Marblemount’s historic preservation with the District’s ongoing operations and maintenance.
