We are seeking an experienced professional to be our Senior Accounting Manager who is skilled in professional services/consulting accounting and financial reporting functions and Deltek Vision and Vantage Point. The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and the MIG Officers Team (CEO, CFO, COO). Due to the nature of the role, this position must be full-time working in-person in our headquarters in Berkeley, CA . Up-to-date Covid vaccination is required for in-person work.

Responsibilities

Collaborative Teammate: You will work as part of a cross-office, cross-discipline team of professional planners, designers, and technical staff who provide consultation to private non-profit, public agencies and private sector clients throughout the nation on projects that enhance community livability, support revitalization, and connect people with nature and culture.

Role: As the Accounting Manager, you will be a resource to all staff firm-wide and serve an integral role collaborating with the Controller, the MIG Officers Team, and senior accounting team members and administrative staff. In addition, you will work with office leadership across our 14 offices to help to oversee the company’s business and related administration/reporting, and support our accounting team. The first priority for this role is to assist our Deltek Vision conversion team to Vantage Point and assist in staff training. The other portions of the role would follow thereafter completing the software transition. 

Duties: You will work closely with a diverse team of professionals to perform the following duties, which may be expanded to include new duties that will be identified in your professional development at MIG:

  • Deltek conversion and ongoing maintenance (65% until launch, then 10% ongoing): Help lead the company’s transition from Deltek Vision to Deltek Vantage Point; provide assistance in on-going Deltek trainings firmwide and respond to routine inquiries.
  • Assist in creating company financials and A/R oversight (approximately 25% of your time following Vantage Point launch): Help oversee the company’s financials and accounts receivable functions, general ledger, provide quarterly general ledger reconciliation, A/R  team workload management, ensure the integrity of financial records and processes in accordance with GAAP; prevent external audit findings through conducting and directing financial analysis, cutoff testing, and monthly/annual close activities.
  • Manage all payroll and other business/corporate taxes: Oversee payroll accountant in producing semi-monthly payroll with ADP, oversee payroll journal entry, assuring timely payment and reporting. (25%)
  • Manage four (4) other sets of books for related entities, a non-profit and owned buildings. (10%)
  • Banking – Review incoming receipts, checks paid, and balances of MIG’s bank account on a daily basis.  Enter ACH’s into deltek on a daily basis. Check for fraud.  Perform timely bank reconciliation on a monthly basis.  (12%)
  • Contracting (5% following conversion): Assist in reviewing draft contracts for legal/indemnification language and ensure corrections are made; assist with implementing and communicating best practices for project budgets across the firm and ensuring the proper budget-to-actual analysis is performed; perform financial flux analysis and identify trends and variances.
  • Business insurances (5% following conversion): Work with the Controller to ensure all cities we work in are covered.  
  • Back-up Project Accounting (13% following conversion): serve as Project Accountant when billers are on vacation/short-staffed; perform new project set up in Deltek and invoicing/project billing and associated reporting. 
  • Provide regular Deltek reports from Project Planning module (firmwide workload projections) and project revenue at risk to the MIG Officers Team (5% following conversion).

 

Qualifications

To accomplish these responsibilities, you will be able to manage competing priorities, think critically and creatively, work as part of a collaborative team in an open environment, and maintain a sense of humor and camaraderie. In addition, you will have some combination of the following qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any field. A degree in accounting, business management or related field is a plus.
  • You are located or willing to relocate to Berkeley, CA and are willing to work in-person at least 4 days/week (ideally 5 days Monday-Friday).
  • 10+ years of relevant senior-level experience in accounting, managing projects, contracts, budgets and organizational finances for a $20M+ company is required. Experience in the A/E or consulting industry highly preferred. Experience with and understanding of applications of Federal Accounting Rules (FAR) and supporting projects in professional services consulting and design-build contracts is preferred. 
  • Experience working with (ideally supervising) a team of project accountants to help balance workload and ensure quality work products. 
  • Strong knowledge in GAAP and internal controls and are able to identify areas of improvement and enhancement in process and policy. 
  • You can function as a Project Accountant when needed and work with the project managers to generate, reconcile, and deliver client invoices. 
  • You have excellent skills in written and verbal communication for internal team coordination.
  • You can prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines. 
  • You have software proficiency in a professional services accounting software (Deltek Vision and Vantage point is required), Adobe PDF, Word and Excel. Experience using Google Suite is a plus. 
  • You use discretion and are tactful in difficult or confidential matters and have excellent skills in written and verbal communication with the ability to interact with our internal team as well as external clients and partners with tact and diplomacy.
